The Victorian Population Health Survey

Arcadia Social Research manages the Victorian Population Health Survey, Australia’s largest ongoing health study, delivering robust, weighted data each year to inform state and local health policy, planning, and research.

Context

The Victorian Population Health Survey (VPHS) has been running for over 20 years, conducted on behalf of the Victorian Department of Health. The survey explores the health and well-being of the Victorian population to inform policy, planning and research to improve the health of Victorians. The VPHS is the largest survey of its kind in Australia, with LGA-level surveying collecting up to n=34,000 completed surveys a year.

Approach

Arcadia Social Research has managed the survey since 2022, in partnership with TKW Research, to complete n=7,500 state-level data collection annually and, every third year, n=34,000 LGA-level quotas data collection, designing the quota array and weighting solution, and providing a comprehensive technical report at the conclusion of each year of fieldwork, including monitoring response rates and methodological improvements.

Result

The cleaned and weighted unit-record data file is used by the Department to inform a breadth of decisions impacting local communities.
